Ten Kinds Tea 十宝草

by Tea Kitamura August 16, 2020

Q. Is this an organic tea?
A. Partially, yes. We blended our organic roasted tea with 9 wild herbs (which cannot be certified as organic) to create this flavorful tea. One sachet makes 1 to 2 pints of tea. Please enjoy hot or cold!

How we create Ten Kinds Tea

Blending takes about a year and a half. We wanted to create a tea that was affordable, healthful, and delicious—a fairly tall order! The most important thing is to let the child drink it, because once the child tries it, they will continue to drink it. No matter how beneficial the drink may be, it may smell unfamiliar or taste bitter, and you can't continue unless your child drinks it.

Why it is not certified as organic?

Tea Kitamura's Ten Kinds Tea may contain Chinese licorice, or Indian or Thai hub tea or pearl barley. We understand that some customers are concerned that some of our ingredients are sourced from outside of Japan. For example, the country of origin for pearl barley is India, and for licorice is China. These products are only available domestically in very small quantities and so are extremely expensive. However, analysis is done in the country of origin, and then the product is analyzed in Japan. I send our outsourced ingredients to a specialized inspection center for analysis using the most rigorous test possible. Furthermore, we investigate the place of production in the country of origin, including where and how the ingredient was grown and processed, and then inspect for pesticide residues and conduct component inspection. We do this so that everyone who drinks our tea can be confident that they are drinking healthy, safe ingredients.
